A provocative teaser trailer for 'Friendly Rivalry' has been released.
This coming February 10th, STUDIO X+U's drama 'Friendly Rivalry' (Planned by: STUDIO X+U / Produced by: YLAB FLEX, STUDIO X+U / Directed by: Kim Tae-hee / Written by: Kim Taehee, Min Yeji) will be released for the first time. 'Friendly Rivalry' is a mystery girl thriller surrounding 'Seulgi', a transfer student to Chaehwa Girls' High School, one of the top 1% in Korea, where a cutthroat college entrance exam competition takes place, her friends who reveal their individual desires, and the suspicious death of her father, who was a member of the CSAT committee. Lee Hye-ri (as Yoo Je-i), Jung Soobin (as Woo Seulgi), Kang Hyewon (as Joo Yeri), and Oh Woori (as Choi Kyung) will portray the changing relationships of these girls amidst precarious emotions as they become addicted to competition in their teens.
Meanwhile, the teaser trailer released on January 13th begins with an image of a character drowning in water. The scene then switches to Chaehwa Girls' High School, the setting of the play, and shows Yoo Je-i (played by Lee Hyeri) standing proudly before the students as a representative. Unlike Yoo Je-i, Woo Seulgi (played by Jung Soobin) appears under the watchful eyes of other students, including Joo Yeri (played by Kang Hyewon) and Choi Kyung (played by Oh Woori). The narration, "When do you think competition starts?" adds to the curiosity.
Then, Yoo Je-i and Woo Seulgi are introduced as "the number one who can't even be jealous" and "the number one who survives" respectively, emphasizing the contrast between the two characters. Yoo Je-i approaches Woo Seulgi and asks, "Is Seulgi preparing for Korea University?" and looks at her with curious eyes, showing Yoo Je-i's curiosity and subtle feelings toward Woo Seulgi. The subtitle "Precarious Relationship" that appears along with this condenses their relationship into one word.
Also, scenes that highlight the individuality of the students, such as Joo Ye-ri taking a selfie in front of a mirror and Choi Kyung nervously throwing a bundle of papers on the rooftop, are inserted. In particular, Choi Kyung's line, "I'm against an unidentified person joining our group," implies that a conflict is brewing between Yoo Je-yi, Joo Ye-ri, and Choi Kyung due to Woo Seul-gi's appearance.
The scene where Yoo Je-i and Woo Seulgi get closer is shown in a montage, and the phrase, "Is it sincerity or obsession?" implies that their relationship is not simple. When Woo Seulgi says, "Honestly, I don't trust you yet," Yoo Je-i says, "But wouldn't it be better to trust me?" and extends his hand.
The atmosphere of the video changes drastically after the two hold hands. The provocative and tense scenes unfold quickly, and the girls' increasingly intense expressions and reactions maximize the sense of immersion. The moment Choi Kyung's scream echoes, Yoo Je-i laughs loudly as if she finds the whole situation amusing, leaving a strong impression, and the teaser ends.
In this way, the teaser trailer for 'Friendly Rivalry' has definitely captured the attention of viewers by quickly introducing the relationships of teenage girls in a competitive society that go back and forth between jealousy and admiration, friendship and obsession. Even in the fast scene changes, the four actors' eyes, expressions, and explosive emotions left a strong impression on the viewers. Even just the teaser trailer alone makes viewers curious about how their amazing acting will be portrayed in the main episode of 'Friendly Rivalry'.
Meanwhile, 'Friendly Rivalry' will be released on February 10th through U+ Mobile TV and U+ TV.
